How terrible is the idea of #selhosting single user #Vaultwarden on #proxmox or #truenas?
I know I need to take care of domains, backups, etc. - like with anything self-hosted really - I can do it. But is there anything else ahead that I can’t see and is problematic and different from self-hosting things like Jellyfins, Nextclouds etc?

It's running other apps of course but this is currently a one core 1GB container connecting to a PostgreSQL container on the same server, and it's handling it comfortably. Je fais tourner deux #parefeu virtualisés #pfsense (pour l'instant) sur mon cluster #proxmox, et cela sur des nœuds différents. L'un est actif et l'autre en attente.

Utile en cas de panne ou de maintenance d'un nœud Proxmox mais aussi pour passer des mises à jour. Dans la pratique, 3 ping perdus au moment de la coupure de l'actif pour son redémarrage et rien de perdu au moment où il reprend la main.

C'est quand même bien fait 😁 .

Looking for anyone who has successfully installed Proxmox on an HP ProLiant DL380 G6 with a Smart Array P411 controller. I have tried Proxmox 7, 8, and 9. Most attempts end in a black screen or kernel panic. Debian itself also fails to detect the RAID 0 logical drive. I have tried both the older CCISS driver and the modern HPSA driver with no luck. Ubuntu installs without issues and sees the array fine, but I do not want Ubuntu running bare metal. I chose Proxmox because the original ESXi install is full of security vulnerabilities and ongoing problems, and I need something better supported. Has anyone got Proxmox working on this exact hardware, or found a reliable way to make the P411 visible during install?

PS. unfortunately I cannot update the firmware right now and since it is not mine and it is for the place that are work in, this is the test hardware that they gave me to try proxmox and see if it's better than EXSI or not.

#HomeServer running #Proxmox died. Inexplicable input/output errors in all VMs and containers. EXT filesystems keep spouting errors even though I shut everything down. The only thing that still works is #BorgBackup. I will have to rebuild this thing. I named it "The Other Castle", after a historic piece of music by a dear friend of mine. The new home server will need a new name... Any suggestions?

@papiris If you’re open to leaving Kubernetes, #Proxmox (which I use for my own stuff) does a lot of this but not all. I think the major thing is that it doesn’t inherently interact with Git in any way, so it’s up to you to implement GitOps. It might be worth looking at:

Mon Proxmox Backup Server 4.2.5 sait maintenant parler S3 avec mon instance MinIO auto-hébergée (SILO) 🪣

Résultat : mes sauvegardes filent directement dans mon propre cloud objet, sans dépendre d'un provider externe. 100% souverain, 100% libre.

Bilan de la soirée : quelques erreurs 400 bien tenaces, un disque racine trop petit découvert juste à temps, et un datastore S3 opérationnel avant minuit 🌙

Weirdly frustrating day today. We booked a weekend maintenance window at work, to upgrade our #Proxmox cluster from V8 to V9 (as V8 goes eol in a few weeks).

The upgrade itself seemed to go smoothly, the first node in the cluster came back fine, but then the second... didn't. Cue 90 mins of troubleshooting (although that included 20 mins for my colleague to head into the office to plug a rescue disk in, because the supermicro LOM refused to mount it remotely 😡) only to discover that the broken node (and the node still pending an upgrade) didn't have the ESP partition in fstab, so /boot/efi was blank.

This meant things went horribly wrong when grub-efi-amd64 got updated and attempted to update the boot order, and couldn't. Which apt doesn't seem to treat as an error worthy of an error return code.

The annoying thing is, I can't work out how it broke *now*. Either this should have broken earlier, during other updates (as that efi package did get updated through the life of proxmox 8), or it should have kept working through this update. One to solve on Monday I feel.

La première tâche s'est lancée à 10h pile et s'est terminée 11 minutes plus tard : 3 VM mises à jour en douceur (PBS, Elasticsearch et Jitsi Meet, bien identifiables en bleu sur la capture) et aucun redémarrage nécessaire. Tout roule tout seul pendant que je peux profiter de mon café ! ☕️

I took some time today to create a PVE test cluster on my outdated hardware in NYC and it's interesting, uninteresting, or better said just plain boring. And this is good!

It just works and (mostly) behaves just like you know and would assume. Everything is mostly the same (sure, some things on hw level might be a bit different when playing near hardware) and you want to make sure your hardware supports H flag.

Adapting to #aarch64 might be a good choice, even professional systems became cheaper. Keeping all automation, config and tools might make it even easier. For me it's now about integrating further arm64 support into #PegaProx and creating arm64 based artifacts!

When talking about open-source virtualization platforms, Proxmox VE is probably one of the first solutions that comes to mind. It combines KVM virtual machines, LXC containers, storage, networking and clustering behind a convenient management interface.
But what if you want to build the same kind of environment on FreeBSD?
This is exactly where Sylve becomes interesting.

As people kept asking for the modules I developed for my @BoxyBSD@bsd.cafe project, I just made them shiny and prepared them for pushing them upstream.

Making the switch easier for people coming from #Proxmox, it uses mostly the same syntax as the Proxmox modules to keep the interface similar. Next to this, they're built in an equal way with a shared authentication module util, to make sure new modules can directly use the same authentication lib.

well well well... had to bump this instance to 4.6.x but it required #ruby 3.3.x which does not come natively with #Ubuntu 24.04

Against what i normally do, I did upgrade the server to 26.04 BEFORE the .1 usual update.

All went well, then had to fk about a bit with the new ruby version on the old instance.

Done all this on a #proxmox backup clone and now I am posting this to a newly updated #mastodon v4.6.3

You've got to love Proxmox for this shit.

On continue d'optimiser l'infrastructure pour garder un environnement propre et performant. Aujourd'hui, c'est un nettoyage ciblé sur les conteneurs #LXC.

LXC supprimés : #HomeTube, #GoMFT, #TubeSync, #Palmr, #Blinko, #MySpeed, #PhotoPrism, #WatchYourLAN, #CalibreWeb, #Termix, #Netvisor.

💊 Erreur dans la Matrice ?
J'ai personnalisé toute ma gestion d'erreurs sur Nginx Proxy Manager pour que chaque "bug" ait son propre style :
🔹 Domaine inconnu ? Le système ne le trouve nulle part dans la simulation.
🔹 Service arrêté ? Il a existé, mais il a été retiré de la Matrice.
Quand la technique rencontre le style, même mes pages 404 ont de la gueule 😎

Many people still believe that Proxmox Backup Server is only meant for Proxmox VE environments and can only be used to back up virtual machines and containers. The reality is that the Proxmox Backup Client has been available for quite some time, allowing dedicated servers and desktop systems to benefit from the same centralized backup infrastructure.

The challenge? The client is powerful, but not necessarily the most user friendly tool for everyone.

That is where OneSystems GmbH (https://www.onesystems.ch) steps in with their #opensource project BackupPilot. It provides a modern and intuitive graphical interface that makes connecting Linux desktop systems to #ProxmoxBackupServer simple and accessible for everyone.

In my latest blog post, I take a closer look at BackupPilot and how it helps bring centralized backups to the desktop. If it fits from a time perspective, I'll also show a small live demo next to my other PBS and S3 talk at @credativde@mastodon.social's next virtualization gathering.
