Last time I checked there was still hardware people were using #Linux on daily that Wayland didn't work on.

Weniger blockierte Requests

Seitdem ich auf Linux und GrapheneOS umgestiegen bin, muss Pi-Hole deutlich weniger DNS-Anfragen blockieren. Die Werte gingen von knapp 15% auf 8% runter. Der Rest stammt von der Windows-Kiste der Liebsten, ihrem Stock-Pixel-Android und dem waipu-TV-Stick (also überwiegend die Apps wie Netflix oder Paramount+).

Das zeigt mir wieder, wie richtig meine Entscheidung war, aber auch, wieviel digitalen Schmutz die Hersteller produzieren, den wir einfach täglich ungefiltert fressen.

find . -name "*.log" -mtime +30 -exec rm {} \;

Löscht alle Log-Dateien die älter als 30 Tage sind. Einfach mal im Home-Verzeichnis laufen lassen und staunen, wie viel Platz da so rumliegt. 🗑️

(Vorher natürlich testen mit `-print` statt `-exec rm`!)

Mit Kdenlive habe ich noch keine eindeutigen Ergebnisse erzielt :(
Direkt vom Server, mit und ohne Proxy oder lokal mit und ohne Proxy.
Alles führt zur gleichen Problematik, wenn ich z.B. eine Vignettierung anwende. LUTs funktionieren gut, aber Kdenlive übernimmt von der .cube Datei nicht die Vignette.
Auch andere kleine Bildkorrekturen führen zum Geruckel. Und mit einer 360p Auflösung kann ich nicht arbeiten.

Ich gebe aber noch nicht auf :)

Heute früh werde ich einige Szenarien für verschiedene Arbeitsabläufe in Kdenlive durchspielen.
Die 4K Daten direkt vom Server und Proxys des Rechners nutzen oder alles lokal. Zweiteres bedeutet immer viele doppelte Dateien und das nervt, ist umständlich und raubt teuren Speicher.
Vielleicht komme ich auch noch auf ganz andere Ideen...
Ich bin selbst auf das Ergebnis gespannt.

This is the best evidence, that Google is going too far.

I got email, that my 200 GB Google One plan is being phased out (with wife we have shared sub for Google Photos), and I have to choose between 100 GB (too small) or 2 TB (too expensive).

Wife, who not even 2 weeks ago asked me how to open file browser on her MacBook, asked me if I can make "some server thingy", to have our photos locally, and not in Google Photos.

So here I am, configuring Immich locally!

KDE Workshop:

Vom 27.02. bis zum 28.02. fand in den Räumlichkeiten des FabLabs Region Nürnberg der Eco KDE Workshop statt. Ein Thema war, wie man die Repaircafes im Umland für die #endof10 Kampagne einbinden kann. Darüber hinaus wurde erörtert, wie man bisherige Fensterprogrammnutzer auf FOSS und Linux bewegen kann. Die Veranstaltung war sehr erfolgreich und wir von der LUG und das FabLab waren froh, dass wir vor Ort dazu beitragen konnten.

Foto vom zweiten Tag. Hier wurde mit den Vertretern der Repaircafes aus dem Nürnberger Umland und u.a. mit der LUG Nürnberg die Antworten auf die Fragestellungen ausgearbeitet. Am Tag 1 wurden vielen Notebooks ein zweites Leben geschenkt.

Am 19.03. findet der Linux-Treff Nord beim Theo in der Schnepfenreuther Hauptstraße 19 statt.

Hier gibt es ab 18:00 Uhr gutes Essen und dann ab ca. 19:30 Uhr geht es mit #Linux und freier Software weiter.

Vielleicht kann jemand bei der Installation eines #Brother MFC-7440N Drucker unter #Tuxedo OS #Linux #KDE6 helfen?

Vor einem Jahr war die Installation nur: Drucker suchen, bestätigen: drucken.

Jetzt habe ich alles Mögliche ausprobiert: übers Netz (ipp, http, lpd, jetdirect/socket) und über USB. In KDE nativ und mit dem Brother Linux Install tool.
Ausprobiert habe ich den original PPD Treiberm, brlaser6, postscript/foomatic

Der Drucker macht entweder gar nichts, oder schmeißt nur leere Blätter mit einem vertikalen Strich auf der gesamten rechten Seite raus.

Der Testdruck sieht super aus. Also liegt nicht am Toner ... sondern lediglich am Treiber

Das Internet hat nur die üblichen Tipps. Hat jemand ne Ahnung, was das Problem sein könnte?

Stürzt bei noch jemandem in #lmstudio das #model ohne weitere Info ab, wenn er eine Datei in den Chat gibt und Vision verwendet? Bei mir jedes mal. An #qwen oder der Systemlast kann es nicht liegen.

Hab schon mit #ollama probiert. Hat zwar 5 Minuten gebraucht, um die Katze zu beschreiben, weil er noch Thinking gemacht hat, aber das Ergebnis war zufriedenstellend und ich hatte keinen Crash.

This is a principle I use since I've been a peuter (NL).

• Analyze what occured
• understand why it occured
• find out under what circumstances it can occur
• close or limit those conditions
• fix the problem by repairing, cooling, modifying the break
• analyse the proposed fix before implementing
• Only replace when all other methods fail or repair is more expensive than replacement

“Better safe than sorry”

For release 0.5.0 of #Censor, a lot of work went into improving the security of PDF redaction.

PDF documents are tricky, and irrevocably removing elements from them is even more. With this release, before saving a redacted document, garbage is now properly collected and documents are sanitized, which means that metadata, page thumbnails, etc. are removed.

Also, vector graphics are now removed with a more strict option when they overlap with redaction rectangles. On top of that, I added redaction of PDF annotations.

The user interface was refreshed: with undo and redo buttons in the toolbar and improved document saving experience. Drawing rectangles is now indicated by a crosshair cursor.

Thanks to the translators, you may now talk also Czech with Censor!

My initial impression with #FreeBSD in 2006 was quite similar. Of course, #Linux back then was a much different beast than what it has evolved (mutated?) into today.

Had I not pursued Linux system administration as a career, I *probably* would have stuck with FreeBSD.

We can make all the technical comparisons between the two OSes all day long but what drove my interest and enthusiasm are (1) the documentation and (2) the community.

Tut mir leid #ArchLinux, aber diesmal haut es mit uns nicht hin 😭

#WLAN geht zwar inzwischen irgendwie, aber ist unbrauchbar langsam, wie ich das von dir nicht kenne. Trotzdem ruft #claws keine Mails ab.

Und dann die Flut von #gtk-Fehlern, die ich nicht lösen kann.

Früher führten deine Installationen immer zu vorzüglichen Ergebnissen, worauf sich ein sauberes System aufbauen ließ. Aber Verschlechterung ist ja ein allgemeiner Trend.

So werde ich nun den Kampf mit #Manjaro aufnehmen. Es bietet wenigstens eine gut funktionierende Basis. Den ganzen unerwünschten beigepackten Müll muss ich eben mühsam entfernen.

Nein, dazu habe ich überhaupt keine Lust, aber für nicht enden wollende Basteleien ist mir meine Zeit inzwischen zu kostbar geworden.

Schade … Puh, mir graut es vor Manjaro 😱

Yesterday I cleaned up my CX23 and moved all services to my own home server. Although the server consumes more power than the Hetzner instance, it offers significantly more performance. I might only let it run for a few hours at a time and automatically switch it off at night. I'm keeping the StorageBox for my backups, as the price remains unbeatable.

I finally released Maolan, DAW for #Linux and #FreeBSD! It was a great joy learning all about #Rust and #audio in a project for #music production. I'm sorry to say that #OpenBSD and #NetBSD are still not supported by the underlying libraries, but once they are, I'll work on support for those operating systems. On the other hand, Windows proved to be near impossible to support, so I removed the support for it. Maybe at some point my best man will add OSX support, but as their baby is on the way, I wouldn't count on it. Anyway, the site is https://maolan.github.io and the only missing piece is "support the project", because I'm in Serbia. Enjoy!

so, ich glaube ich muss mal meinen linux benutzer resetten

der läuft nun seit irgend 5 jahren durch mehrere distro-updates und neuinstallationen durch - da hat sich ne ganze menge müll angesammelt

dazu kommt dass ich damals in einer hauruck aktion zu linux desktop gewechselt bin - mal hier was konfiguriert, mal dort n vm image gespeichert - ohne klares konzept von wie-was-wo

ich könnte auch einfach einen neuen benutzer erstellen, aber ich will die 1000 behalten 🙈 😅

Egal ob Windows oder macOS: Beides kommt mir nicht mehr ins Haus. Der Nachwuchs wächst direkt mit Linux auf. Wer Kindern heute ein Betriebssystem beibringt, sollte ihnen nicht zuerst zeigen, wie man mit Werbung, Telemetrie und Kontozwang lebt. Die großen Desktop-Systeme entwickeln sich immer stärker weg vom Werkzeug und hin zur überwachten Plattform. Was früher Betriebssystem war, ist heute oft nur noch Überwachungssoftware mit Desktop-Oberfläche. Linux ist nicht perfekt, aber es behandelt Nutzer eher als Menschen und nicht als Datenquelle.

Nun, Mike Kuketz hat hier nur zwei dinge vergessen:

1. Android (hier meist als „ändräut“ geschrieben), das genau so eine schlimme enteignungs- und technikverhinderungskrüppelscheiße wie windohs und mäcOS ist. Guhgell ist keinen deut besser. Wenn man ein neues wischofon kriegt, darf man erstmal hilflos drauf rumwischen und alles abstellen, was man nicht will — oder die gewährleistung verlieren, weil man eine andere softwäjhr auf dem kompjuter ausführen will, den man mit teuer geld gekauft hat.
2. Die BRD-zwangsschulen, in denen den kindern regelmäßig windohs oder mäcOS aufgezwungen wird oder aufgezwungen werden soll. Der letzte derartige fall, mit dem ich am rande zu tun hatte, endete erst, als strafanzeige gegen den schulleiter wegen des verdachts auf vorteilsnahme erstattet wurde. Da hat er erst zurückgezogen, eher er ein ganzes gymnasium in die äppel-falle schmeißt — auf kosten der eltern und der digitalkompetenzen der schüler, versteht sich.

Die scheiße wird den menschen aufgezwungen, und zwar überall. Und seit jahren wird die scheiße scheibchenweise immer mieser und immer reklamehaltiger und immer wanzenhafter gemacht. Von der krüppelscheiße mit der so genannten „künstlichen intelligenz“, die sie gerade überall dranflanschen, will ich da gar nicht erst anfangen. Damit erzieht man geradezu dumme, abhängige und digitaltechnisch völlig inkompetente nutzerys.

Noch ein tipp von mir, aus erfahrung: nehmt kein unbuntu, wenn ihr linux nehmt, sondern nehmt eine distri, die funkzjoniert. Die völlig unreife und dysfunktionale snäpscheiße, die einem bei unbuntu hinterhältig reingedrückt wird, sorgt zu oft für probleme. Ist dann halt scheiße, wenn der passwortmänätscher nicht mehr mit dem webbrauser zusammenarbeitet, der als snäp daherkommt. Klar, kann man sich alles zurechtfummeln und sich ganz viele paketkwellen eintragen, aber wer nicht fummeln will und einfach nur einen funkzjonierenden kompjuter benutzen will, sollte besser einen bogen um unbuntu machen. Und wer keine angst vor einer manchmal etwas rauheren erfahrung mit einem unixoiden betrübssystem hat, ist bei BSD sowieso besser aufgehoben.

Mal wieder #Linux mit Spielen getestet. Dies mal #CachyOS.
Funktioniert generell ganz gut inkl. #HDR.
Zwei Haken:
1. sieht weniger beeindruckend aus wie unter W10. Irgendwie viel zu viel Kontrast. Und Gefummel ist es weiterhin.
2: die Lüfter bringen den Rechner zum Abheben. Also irgendwas stimmt da noch nicht.

Orrr. Nervt.
