Faaast Penguin : Un jeu gratuit qui vaut le détour

Bonjour,

J’ai découvert ce jeu début Octobre grâce à la communauté Gaming Linux FR. Je n’avais jamais entendu parler de celui-ci avant alors qu’il est sorti en Septembre 2024. C’est dommage car c’est un jeu en ligne gratuit et vraiment marrant !

Dans celui-ci, vous incarnez un pingouin qui va faire des courses en glissant sur une piste. Chaque course est composée de 4 circuits qui sont choisis de façon aléatoire. Le but est simple, il faut arriver premier et pour cela plusieurs choses vont influencer la course :

• Le type de circuit : Une mécanique est propre à chaque type de circuit. Par exemple, dans certains circuits, vous aurez des bouteilles d’eau à ramasser qui pourront vous servir de propulseur et vous permettront d’atteindre certains passages pour gagner du temps. Dans d’autres circuits, il vous faudra des lanternes pour traverser les passages dans le noir sans tomber.
• La possibilité de pouetter (attaquer) les adversaires et les éléments en rose : Durant la course, il est possible de pouetter les adversaires ou certains éléments. Cela vous permettra de sauter et de gagner de la vitesse. Si cela est fait sur un adversaire, celui-ci sera ralenti et dévié légèrement de son chemin, ce qui peut résulter à sa chute dans le vide.
• Le super : Une transformation en super est possible quand on a ramassé assez de boites de maquereaux. C’est un peu l’équivalent de l’étoile dans Mario Kart, on va plus vite et on est invincible durant un temps limité.
• La route que vous prendrez sera déterminante : Plusieurs chemins sont possibles pour arriver à la fin du circuit. Certains étant plus rapide que d’autres, à vous de trouvez la meilleure route.
• La chance : Comme dans tous les jeux, il y a la chance liée aux objets, le niveau des autres participants et aussi la façon de jouer de vous et des autres.

Le jeu est ensuite composé de saisons qui durent environ 2 mois dans laquelle il y a divers objectifs à atteindre :

• Les paliers de saison qui permettent d’obtenir différentes récompenses : or, patounes (ou Cristaux, la monnaie payante du jeu), des costumes, bannières etc… Ces paliers montent avec les 3 quêtes journalières à effectuer ainsi que des points gagnés pour chaque participation.
• La rang de votre personnage pour la saison en cours : En fonction de votre classement, chaque course vous donnera des points. La première place, vous en donnera 24. Ces points permettent de monter de rang et le plus haut à atteindre est celui de légende qui demande 2400 points.

Le but est donc d’essayer d’avoir le fameux rang légende et de finir de gravir les 200 paliers de saison. A noter qu’à la prochaine saison, vous repartirez de zéro mais tous les objets gagnés seront conservés.

Au fur et à mesure de votre avancée, vous pourrez donc personnaliser votre pingouin. Deux exemples ci-dessous :

Le jeu est disponible sur PC (Windows & Linux), Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S et Nintendo Switch. Le jeu est d’ailleurs Cross-plateform, c’est à dire que les joueurs de PC peuvent jouer avec ceux étant sur console !

Le jeu passe par un compte Epic et sur PC, il est conseillé de passer par l’Epic Games Store pour éviter des soucis. En effet, plusieurs personnes sous Windows ou Linux ont eu des soucis avec la version Steam où la liste d’amis refuse de s’ouvrir en jeu, ce qui fait qu’il est impossible de jouer en groupe avec des amis.

Random thought: #Enshittification hat auch unter #Linux schon vor laaaanger Zeit begonnen. Seien es Flatpak, AppImage und Snap oder die ersten Skandale damals um Ubuntu - oder sei es #systemd.

#KISS scheint vollkommen aus der Mode zu sein. Einfache Konfiguration auch (.conf oder .ini statt irgendwelche obskuren Systeme).

Und ja, ich bin immer noch der Meinung, daß Computer immer noch nichts für Menschen sind, die keine Ahnung von den Dingern haben. Das wird erst funktionieren, wenn die ganzen massiven Gewinnerzielungsabsichten nicht mehr an jeder Ecke lauern. Wenn nicht mehr Marketing & Design für Programme zuständig sind, wenn Programme keine Webseiten mehr sind, wenn #FAQ​s wieder auf Basis echter und tatsächlich gestellter Fragen geschrieben werden.

What a difference a year makes.

A mere 12 months ago, when I saw a photo of a 🐧​ or heard the word "penguin", I immediately thought of the cute black and white seabird.

Now, in December 2025, when I see a penguin plushie or a mural drawing, I immediately think of #Tux and #Linux... the world of FOSS... freedom, digital sovereignty and independence from Big Tech.

The photo below is of a plushie belonging to my little one... she picked it this morning for the walk to nursery school.

My plan for this morning: drafting the first post in the miniseries about self-hosting from the POV of a newbie... my one year anniversary is coming up next week!

Please, allow me to question this:
Why did I have to do this? I shouldn't have to do this. I shouldn't have to even worry about this. Why did I need to install the dark theme a second time? Why isn't that handled automatically?

Does anyone else running Linux on the desktop (Ubuntu 24.04 in particular) notice their web browser becoming mostly unresponsive if they also run other apps like Keepassxc or Joplin in another window? It seems to impact both Firefox and Chrome based browsers, including variants like LibreWolf and Ungoogled-Chromium. I have to restart the browser constantly. I've tried disabling hardware acceleration in the browser to no avail.

@linuxallday First *ever* Linux distribution for me? I don't remember what it was called; I think MiniLinux or something like that. I do know it ran on UMSDOS on FAT, kept its stuff in a dedicated directory instead of on a separate partition and started from DOS. This was definitely in the mid-1990s.

Then later gave Slackware a try. No idea what version but around the same timeframe.

First one I actually used to *do* much of anything though? Red Hat 6.2 circa 1999-2000. (No, not RHEL.)

If you have a printer and it works with Linux, most likely OpenPrinting and Till Kamppeter made that happen.

Canonical fired him recently because he didn't contribute to Ubuntu directly (they hired him to do the OpenPrinting stuff in the first place - it seems they forgot that when they were looking at their KPI spreadsheet).

That's why manufacturer and company-independent funding of opensource projects is important.

Depuis que je suis passé à #Linux (#Pop_OS), mon pc portable refuse de se mettre en veille (ni suspend ni hibernate).
C'est un #Asus ROG Zephyrus G14. Il contient un mix de AMD et de NVIDIA. Il parait que des fois ça complique les choses.
J'ai passé des nuits à bidouiller. J'ai ajouté un fichier swap de la bonne taille. Rien ne change.
Ceci est un appel à l'aide:
Si quelqu'un s'y connait vraiment sur ce genre de sujets et veut bien passer un moment à me décoincer, je serais très soulagé.

Let’s be clear:

Yes, people are busy, and maintaining software isn’t always enjoyable. No one is saying you need to run the absolute latest, bleeding-edge updates every single day.

However, if you let your server fall behind for six (6) months or more, even because of a busy schedule, you’re effectively putting your users and your instance at risk. At that point, it’s more responsible to participate as a user rather than as a system administrator.

System administration isn’t just about enthusiasm — it requires consistent upkeep, attention to security, and a willingness to stay reasonably current with updates. If your lifestyle doesn’t allow for that, it’s completely okay. It’s better to recognize your limits than to run a server that could become a liability to the wider Fediverse.

Je fais une instal' pour un ordi portable bureautique cet aprèm', et j'aimerais que ça se passe de la façon la plus fluide possible.

L'ordi utilise Intel VMD.

Holy crap, the Lossless Scaling port on Linux (lsfg-vk) is AWESOME!

The games that were borderline unplayable during my budget gaming video (with the RX 570) like Dirt 5 and Spider-Man Remasterd are smooth as butter now, with nearly double the framerate!

I tried it with Bazzite's Steam Gaming Mode, and it just worked. So impressive! Now I have to try it on ALL THE THINGS.

Bad things:
1. No Meteor Lake firmware in repos. Seriously guys ? This chip is almost three years old.
2. There is a pkg drm-kmod-latest (based on Linux 6.9) - this should support Meteor Lake easily. But - see point 1.
3. Downloaded GPU firmware from #Linux repos but drm-latest-kmod just panics and reboots computer.
4. Removed drm-latest-kmod and installed drm-66-kmod and it sort of supports my MTL GPU. I have vertical 70's disco on my console

WiFi is usually one of the bigger problems, because of firmware. I hear suspend/resume can also be a bit iffy.

Most issues you might run into are eminently fixable, so whatever you do, don't give up on the first setback.

Ich hatte damals das erste Jolla Phone und fand es einfach nur genial. Es hat mich lange begleitet unter anderem auf meiner Pilgerreise auf dem Jakobsweg. Leider ist es dann irgendwann auseinandergebröselt, es hat aber einige Jahre durchgehalten. Auf das neue Jolla freue ich mich schon. Das besondere an diesem Phone ist, dass die Specs komplett von der Community bestimmt worden sind und die sehen wirklich vielversprechend aus.

Le noyau #Linux 6.18 est disponible, dernière grande version de l’années. Le monde Linux finit l’année avec une nouvelle version majeure du #noyau riche en nouveautés. Selon Phoronix, elle affiche de bonnes performances, ne semble pas contenir de régression par rapport au noyau 6.17 et semble avoir tout ce qu’il faut pour devenir la nouvelle mouture #LTS (Long Term Support).

@JdeBP It's an older HP tablet-laptop thing. It runs #Windows and #Linux fine. The problem is the system cannot proceed after receiving the error. It just sits there until I reboot.

Ich höre am Smartphone über Bluetooth Musik und kann diese vom PC aus steuern. Und das alles ohne Cloud oder Server dazwischen.

Charge CPU : Il utilise le processeur pour compresser. La philosophie est de ne pas imposer une charge CPU si l'utilisateur a beaucoup de RAM.
Philosophie : Le swap (même Zram) est un "dernier recours". Les distros par défaut visent la neutralité.
MAIS : Pour les PC reconditionnés, à faible RAM, ou pour la réactivité (coucou #Emmabuntüs !), Zram est VITAL ! C'est pourquoi nous le recommandons. 😉
