Ja, der Desktop meines alten Acer-Schätzchens sieht fast genau aus wie die Tage. Aber unter de Haube ist alles neu. Man beachte das Menü-Logo. :-)

Hier haben wir #Manjaro #XFCE bei Arbeit. #SparkyLinux war nett, aber das Bessere ist der Feind des Guten. Und ich habe nun mal eine Schwäche für #Arch. Schon des mit #yay, #pacseek und #pamac leicht zugänglichen Softwareangebots wegen.

#Fooyin hier zu installieren, war eine Sache von Sekunden, unter #Sparky (#Debian) leider wie berichtet ein Graus. Mag ein spezieller Fall gewesen sein, aber sei's drum.

Egal. Nun ist wieder alles so wie ich es gern habe. Nur noch schnell den #Server per #NFS ins Boot holen und ein paar hilfreiche Links setzen.

Dann ist auch der 16 Jahre alte #Travelmate #7740G wieder ein vollwertiges Mitglied meiner Rechnerfamilie. 🤓

Screenshot meines uralten Acer 7740G unter Manjaro XFCE.

So. Hauptrechner läuft mit EndeavourOS (Arch), Laptop 1 läuft mit Linux Mint mit XFCE und Liquorix-Kernel. Laptop 2 kriegt jetzt Fedora XFCE. Vielleicht auch den LQX-Kernel.

Damit kann ich wohl behaupten, alle relevanten Linux-Distributionen einigermaßen zu beherrschen.

Gentoo und Slackware laufen aktuell nur in der VM bei mir.

Bisher hat @markus dieses verwalten des digitalen Raum übernommen, was ausgezeichnet und ohne Mängel funktioniert. 👌

Zukünftig will ich jedoch wieder mehr selbst involviert sein und dabei noch das ein oder andere lernen diesbezüglich, zumal ich bei Linux in Form von Mint(Arbeiten) & Arch(Daddeln) seit ein paar Jahren schon investiert bin im privaten. 😊

Es ist durchaus möglich, den fast immer viel zu kleinen Schriften und Symbolen in QT-Apps Benimm beizubringen. Gerade wieder mal gemacht. KeepassXC ist zum Beispiel so ein Kandidat dafür. ;-)

Für Menschen mit Augenproblemen ist so ein kleiner schmutziger Hack eine wahre Wohltat.

I deal with the AUR as an Arch user like this:

1.) If a project maintains their own repo, I tend to feel ok using the AUR for it.

2.) For a project either not in the AUR or is but not maintained by the project themselves, I use flatpak if its official, or use distrobox to install the version the project maintains/suggests

Never install from the AUR if the project doesn't maintain the repo themselves

A few months ago, I set myself a simple goal: understand the operating systems I use.

The journey has been fun, but there’s always a bit of fiction along the way.

Spend a week deep in the #FreeBSD world, then switch back to #MacOS or #Arch, and you quickly realize how much your own muscle memory slows you down.

So I built and open-sourced UPKG:

UPKG gives you a single package management command across operating systems.

It doesn’t replace the native package manager. It simply provides a consistent interface so you can use the same commands everywhere.

On macOS, it can completely replace Brew.

If you’re thinking about moving to BSD, install UPKG first. Get comfortable with the syntax, then when yo a’re ready, drop the 'u' and use pkg directly. Or keep using UPKG if you prefer.

PS: Nothing here is vibe-coded. I read the source code of every target package manager and wrote a proper wrapper around them.

Unlike many other Hack and Slashes games, the emphasis is on exploring his dungeons (procedurally generated) and not simply eliminating anything that moves. In fact, killing anything that moves is the best way to die quickly. The player is accompanied by a pet that helps him in his progression.
