                        Been a busy morning with an oil change for my car and breakfast with 2/3 of my sons. Had espresso this morning instead of my usual , but it's caffeine nonetheless. ☕

                                                                                                    (For those of you who are new to my feed: the grey cat at the bottom of the stairs is ours, Merlin. The one inside the screen door is also ours, obviously, that's Prince Ollie. The cat in the middle preventing Merlin from going up the stairs and inside is our neighbor, Ernesto.)

I should probably have included this in my recent sequence on Jags - it’s a 420G, a renamed version Mark 10, which had first been introduced in 1961. It stayed in production until 1970, its replacement the XJ having been launched in 1968. It also formed the basis of the recently featured Daimler DS420 limousine.                                                                                                                                                     Today, for , we go right back to the very beginning of the post-war Jaguar roadster line with the sleek XK120, launched in 1948. The XK120 was the first Jaguar to use the legendary DOHC straight-six XK engine. This 1951 car lives at The Great British Car Journey, where I saw it last year.

From the mid-sixties onwards, Daimler badged Jaguars, whether based on the 420 or the later XJ, were called Daimler Sovereigns. The exception were V12 Daimlers, which carried the designation Double Six. In 1983, the Sovereign model name was transferred to the top variant of the Jaguar-badged XJ. The Daimler-badged car continued but without a model name. Seen at the British Motor Museum in 2023.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                  A coffee bean is a seed from the Coffea plant and the source for coffee. This fruit is often referred to as a coffee cherry, but unlike the cherry, which usually contains a single pit, it is a berry most commonly found having two seeds with their flat sides together. Even though the seeds are not technically beans, they are referred to as such because of their resemblance to true beans. A fraction of coffee cherries contain a single seed, called a "peaberry". Peaberries make up only around 10% to 15% of all coffee beans. It is a fairly common belief that they have more flavor than normal coffee beans. Over the last two weeks I’ve described how Jaguar, a marque to an extent defined by its use of inline sixes, dealt with the question of whether to adopt ‘V’ engines. In 1994, the company introduced X300, a heavily restyled XJ40. Under the bonnet, the AJ16 inline six, a development of the AJ6. This 1997 X300, seen at the British Motor Museum in 2023, was the last car off the line fitted with a Jag straight six. Change was afoot. (1/2)
