💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🐈🧬 A team at #Stanford identified the ancient genetic mutation that makes orange #cats orange – a tiny deletion on the X chromosome that flips a gene on in pigment #cells, blocking dark pigment and turning fur orange.
The mechanism is unlike anything seen in any other #mammal, which explains why about 80% of orange cats are male: the mutation is on the X chromosome. The #study traces the #mutation back to #medieval times, when calico cats appeared in 12th-century #paintings.

There is a meme going around about cat’s murder faces and I feel the record must be corrected. The meme states that the cat on the left (with an angry expression) is not planning to murder you. This is false. That cat is 100% contemplating your demise; they are doing it coldly and rationally. The cat on the right with the adorable wide pupils is also going to kill you, but it’s in a state of temporary insanity and will claim before a judge that you were asking for, just look at how you were moving (aside: cats, unlike police, do know the definition of and how to spot furtive motions).

Just checking in - the results of yesterdays tests for my husband will be available today and will need to be discussed with the doctor. Since he knocked me down 3 weeks ago, Theo has jumped up and grabbed my legs with his claws three times, almost knocking me down again. If I can't find a way to stop him from doing it, I don't know if I can keep him. I don't want to take him back to the shelter, but at my age falls are dangerous.
So yesterday I bought a Feliway diffuser and plugged it in. It hasn't had an effect on him yet -- he just clawed my legs and made me spill my coffee again a few minutes ago. But I'm hoping it will help calm him.

So there was an image of fluffy white #cat in transparent vessel, probably trash bin, shaped like this. Cannot find this photo in the web right now, but it was the one doing many circles in jokes and memes about #cats being liquid (or melting in hot days), even here I saw it many times.
I started thinking that cat looked like half-melting #IceCream in big glass.
And there was Codenames #tabletop game I played several times on work integration meetings (picture version, there is also word version mentioned in web more often). I noticed pictures on cards being very absurd/surrealistic/psychedelic and I really liked it.
Finally I thought "there could be cat ice-cream #card in this game", it would have similar vibe. So this is my vision of that card, drawn in style similar to original Codenames cards.

His eyes are closed, his nose and ears are very pink indicating that he's warm, and his front paws are relaxedly curled and sprawled close to his chest. The shiny white ceramic of the sill reflects his pale shadow in a near mirror shine, and it's just quite pleasing. A ginger and cream cat in a cheerfully yellow cardboard storage box, huddled down comfortably so that only his upper face, eyes and ears are poking out over its edge. The box is on a bamboo wardrobe shelf, the slats pushed aside to reveal him. His eyes, with large black pupils because of the low light where the photo was taken, are shiny and immense and reflecting the tiny shape of the human taking the photo. His irises are a deep yellow green with dark green bits, like moss agate, and they're quite striking. He looks fairly relaxed, but like he's questioning the phone being so close to him. All the socks in the box have been nicely compressed by him, and not visible over the side of the box, but rest assured they're also absolutely covered in cat hair.

Oh, hello there, you found me...or did I find you?
It's just me, Fi. That really annoying woman from Scotland that talks way too much then shuts down because everything is overwhelming.
So yeah, about me - Fi, Scottish, carer for my child, cat lady. Disabled thanks to arthritis, fibromyalgia and some unknown thing thats under constant investigation until the docs decide whats going on - or if my body just hates me (it probably does, I don't blame it).
I spend most of my time looking after the cats (fat cat and skinny cat), the child and totally neglecting myself. When I'm not doing caring duties, I'm stitching, gaming or sleeping...although every now and then I venture outside into the real world and it reminds me I don't like it.
I'm mostly found online early morning, usually half dead from lunchtime. Although now and then I will lurk and randomly set up a new account just before bedtime...like now, so hi 😁

My partner and I were just out for a walk recently, and we were talking about dog owners, then dogs, then cats; I lamented that it was too bad she's allergic to cats, because they're such lovely, cute, cuddly animals (when they're not shedding, causing allergies, swatting stuff off tables, yowling, pooping or peeing in odd places, throwing up on the bed, etc).
So last night, she comes home with this derpy little creature, who is cute, cuddly, and lovely, and has none of the downsides we listed on out walk 💖💖🫠
Now I just need a good name for her.
