                They've been like this for ten minutes. It's a standoff.
                (For those of you who are new to my feed: the grey cat at the bottom of the stairs is ours, Merlin. The one inside the screen door is also ours, obviously, that's Prince Ollie. The cat in the middle preventing Merlin from going up the stairs and inside is our neighbor, Ernesto.)

                                                                                                                                  :charlene_cat_head: For the first seven months of her life, lived free on the mountain. She adopted me in November, and in April, after scrapping with another cat and a vet visit, became an indoor cat.

                                                                                                                                  Charlene has adapted well to inside-the-cabin life. As a consolation/reward, when weather permits, I leave the window open next to the desk. It's Charlene's favorite spot and allows her to watch what's going on outside from a safe vantage point.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        My partner and I were just out for a walk recently, and we were talking about dog owners, then dogs, then cats; I lamented that it was too bad she's allergic to cats, because they're such lovely, cute, cuddly animals (when they're not shedding, causing allergies, swatting stuff off tables, yowling, pooping or peeing in odd places, throwing up on the bed, etc).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        So last night, she comes home with this derpy little creature, who is cute, cuddly, and lovely, and has none of the downsides we listed on out walk 💖💖🫠

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              26 avril. On est parti vers 9h de Saint-Genix-les-Villages pour faire les 47kms jusqu'à à Aix-les-bains. On est arrivés vers 12h pour récupérer les clés du et rencontrer les deux chats avec qui on va dormir 😻. Ça montait un peu plus aujourd'hui pour atteindre la galerie du chat, le tunnel à côté du tunnel du chat. Pas d'aménagement pour y monter mais de l'autre côté des pistes cyclables et des vélos de partout! Le midi on a mangé des plats végétariens dans un resto arménien à côté de la gare: le faisan de colchide, c'était top. Aprèm balade le long du lac, il fait déjà très chaud 🥵.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Approximately 10 years ago today, a kitten was born and didn't get told that he was supposed to stay tiny.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    4 months after that, he escaped from his previous home and turned up outside my flat. Sadly we were at PLAY Festival that weekend, but when we got home the next day he was still lurking around my front door waiting for us to get home.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Fliss made incoherent squealing noises and did the Manga eyes thing at me, and I admitted that the kitten did seem quite cute, and very keen on coming indoors with us (possibly because the neighbour's greyhound wanted to eat him).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Fliss said she'd discuss it with her elderly cat who she was sure would be absolutely fine with having a tiny new friend (she was not, particularly, because he was an arsehole who rapidly grew to be larger than her before he was a year old and long before he outgrew his fighty kitten stage, but they did negotiate some sort of peace eventually).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    We took him to the vet (no chip, no health issues), and I put up 'Found: kitten!' posters. And refused to let Fliss name him until we had made a decent effort to reunite him with his owner.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    A week later, a local came round and told us the kitten had escaped from a home that was legally banned from owning animals after a recent grim RSPCA case involving exceptionally cruel mistreatment of a dog.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    So I took down the posters, and we named him Westley (after The Man In Black from The Princess Bride), and he has stayed happily indoors ever since.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    I assume he will stop growing at some point. It has at least slowed down a lot now. The last time we weighed him he was over 8kg, which is pretty impressive for a cat who isn't football shaped.

It’s still attached at the top of the door so it makes a great toy. It’s elastic so when he pulls it at lets go it springs away from him. Much fun. His black brother looks on very interested but knows it’s probably a bad thing that’s happening and he’s certainly not to blame.
